UBTECH opens Liuzhou factory for 10,000 robots a year

UBTECH Robotics has opened a 14,000 square metre robot factory in Liuzhou, China, with a stated annual capacity of 10,000 units. According to India Today, the company says the facility can produce one industrial humanoid every 10 minutes, although the report does not provide an operating schedule that reconciles that rate with the annual capacity.

The UBTECH robot factory primarily produces the company’s Walker S and Cruzr series. It was built by UBTECH and Siemens Digital Industries Software in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Humanoids handle materials, not the entire build

UBTECH calls the plant’s digital management system its smart brain. The software coordinates production planning, component movement and quality checks. Individual robots receive serial numbers so they can be tracked throughout manufacturing.

Cruzr Y1 and Cruzr S2 robots unload, stack, load and transport materials around the production floor, according to the company. Collaborative robot arms, unmanned logistics vehicles, power assist manipulators and rotating worktables support final assembly. This equipment allows multiple models to be produced on the same line.

The available account does not establish that humanoids perform the core mechanical or electrical assembly of other humanoids. It specifically describes them doing material handling, while other automation assists with assembly. The widely used description of robots building robots is therefore broader than the disclosed task breakdown. The report also gives no staffing figure or detailed comparison of human and automated work.

Four hours of testing before storage

Each completed robot undergoes more than four hours of whole machine testing, followed by a 360 degree visual inspection. An automated warehouse can hold 112 humanoids within 65 square metres. Automated guided vehicles and unmanned forklifts transfer robots and components among assembly, testing and storage areas.

The plant opens amid rising industrial robot production in China. Figures attributed to the country’s National Bureau of Statistics show output reached 98,677 industrial robots in July, up 30.2 percent year on year. Production during the first seven months totaled 635,056 units, an increase of 28.5 percent.
