Tau Robotics offers humanoid home cleaning at $30 an hour

Tau Robotics is offering a humanoid home cleaning service in San Francisco for $30 an hour. According to Scripps News, the robots can vacuum floors, wipe kitchen counters, take out trash, clean spills and pick up loose items from floors.

Human staff remotely monitor the machines while they work. That makes the current offering a supervised robotics service, rather than a demonstration of autonomous humanoid home cleaning. Tau Robotics says it eventually wants the machines to operate fully autonomously.

The company says its humanoids are already working in real San Francisco homes and can adapt to individual spaces and preferences. Those performance claims were not independently evaluated in the Scripps report, which did not identify the robot model or provide hardware specifications, fleet numbers or autonomy metrics.

Bookings remain invite only, with prospective customers directed to a waitlist. Tau Robotics also wants to expand the robots into home repairs and elderly care, although no timetable was given.

The paid operation is more substantive than a controlled household demonstration, but the continued human monitoring is a central qualification. Domestic environments present varied layouts, clutter and manipulation tasks, and the available reporting does not establish how much of each cleaning job is completed autonomously or how often an operator intervenes.
