Welcome, TIAGo Pro!
TIAGo Pro is a humanoid mobile manipulator from PAL Robotics in Barcelona, Spain, designed for research and applications across healthcare, industry, logistics, education and agrifood. Its humanlike upper body combines two arms, an expressive touchscreen face and a lifting torso with an omnidirectional wheeled base. The robot stands 155 cm tall, weighs 80 kg and reaches a maximum travel speed of 5.4 km/h. Its torso provides 35 cm of vertical adjustment, while the platform offers 23 degrees of freedom. Elastic arm actuators incorporate torque sensing to support compliant interaction, with safety features including six brakes per arm, an additional torso brake and an emergency stop. Listed runtime is four hours per charge. Standard computing includes an Intel i5 processor, 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD, with more powerful configurations available. TIAGo Pro has an overall skill score of 3 out of 10, placing its assessed capabilities in the developing range, with navigation rated 1 out of 5 and manipulation rated 2 out of 5.
Obstacle avoidance, sorting goods and assembling products define TIAGo Pro’s listed practical capabilities. Its omnidirectional base supports positioning around a workspace, while the lifting torso adjusts the arms’ working height. An RGB depth camera in the head supplies visual input, and torque sensing in the elastic arm actuators provides feedback during physical interaction. For sorting goods, the two arms and standard parallel grippers provide a platform for studying object handling and placement. Product assembly offers another application for investigating coordinated manipulation. Optional Allegro Hands provide an alternative to the standard grippers. These capabilities make the platform relevant to experiments connecting perception, navigation and manipulation, while its developing skill rating sets a measured expectation for overall performance.
TIAGo Pro is in production, with a listed price of USD 90,000. Its broader significance lies in combining a mobile humanoid form with an open ROS 2 software environment for research and application development. The operating system uses Ubuntu LTS with PREEMPT RT, while internal communication uses a 1 kHz EtherCAT bus. Wi Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and WireGuard VPN provide connectivity options. Computing upgrades include an Intel i7 configuration with 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD, alongside an NVIDIA Jetson PC option. For research teams, these choices offer flexibility in computing resources and software integration within a single physical platform. PAL Robotics positions the robot as the next generation of its TIAGo research platform.
