ROBOTIS launches Open Humanoid GYM for sim to real training

ROBOTIS has launched Open Humanoid GYM, an open source program for university and graduate students to develop behaviors for humanoid robots. According to Interesting Engineering, the initiative uses the Korean company’s AI Sapiens K1 platform and DYNAMIXEL components for simulation and physical testing.

Over one month, participants built humanoid motions in simulation and transferred them to physical robots. They created and deployed a range of full body behaviors, although the report does not identify the individual behaviors or provide performance results. The ROBOTIS Open Humanoid GYM instead centers on the development workflow itself, including behavior design, training, testing and sim to real transfer.

The broader ROBOTIS Open Humanoid platform is intended to expose several layers of the robotics stack. These include mechanical design, software, simulation environments, motion development and AI based training. That scope could make it useful for researchers who need more control than a closed humanoid development kit typically provides.

The available account leaves important implementation details unspecified, including hardware specifications, benchmark results, repository access and the licensing terms attached to the open source work. For now, the project is best viewed as an educational humanoid test bed and a demonstration of ROBOTIS hardware rather than evidence of a new locomotion benchmark.
