Welcome, GoMate!

GoMate is a Chinese humanoid robot from GAC Group, designed around a shape shifting mobility concept that moves between a stable four wheel stance and an upright two wheel posture. Unveiled in Shanghai in December 2024, it stands 140 centimetres tall, weighs 45 kilograms, and has a stated maximum speed of 8 kilometres per hour. Its 38 overall degrees of freedom include 14 in the hands, with five fingers on each hand, supporting a humanlike physical form for work near people. GAC specifies axial flux motors with up to 1,000 newton metres of torque, alongside a 3D vision system, LiDAR, multimodal sensing, and onboard AI processing connected to cloud based multimodal models. CAN, EtherCAT, and cloud connectivity support its control and data pathways. The robot has a stated runtime of six hours per charge and is identified as safe with humans. Its Humanoid Guide Skill Score is 3 out of 10, placing GoMate in a developing stage, with navigation rated 2 out of 5 and manipulation rated 1 out of 5.

GoMate is oriented toward mobile work where reliable movement and simple handling matter. Its recorded capabilities include obstacle avoidance, walking stairs, and sorting goods. Obstacle avoidance complements its vision, LiDAR, and multimodal sensing suite by supporting movement through shared and changing spaces. Walking stairs extends its mobility beyond smooth factory floors and allows operation across building layouts that include level changes. Sorting goods links locomotion with basic manipulation, making the platform relevant to logistics flows in which objects must be identified, approached, moved, and organised. The four wheel stance can support stable, energy conscious travel, while the upright two wheel posture provides a different physical configuration for tasks that benefit from reach. Together, these capabilities point to practical indoor deployment scenarios in logistics, automotive settings, education, elderly care, and security patrol, where navigation and object sorting can be combined in one platform.

GoMate is currently listed as a prototype, with a displayed price of 80,000 USD and purchasing handled through an inquiry process. The project is significant because GAC Group brings automotive manufacturing and autonomous driving experience into humanoid robotics. GAC produces more than 2.5 million vehicles annually and positions GoMate as the third generation of its in house embodied AI robots. The platform reuses expertise from autonomous driving, including perception and decision making approaches, then combines it with a body that can change its mobility posture. This creates a direct connection between vehicle technology, robotics hardware, and cloud based multimodal AI. GoMate also reflects growing interest from major automakers in applying established supply chains, motor development, sensing, and intelligent control systems to physical AI systems intended for service and production environments.
