Schaeffler trains Hexagon’s AEON humanoid for factory work

Hexagon Robotics’ AEON humanoid has entered Schaeffler’s Humanoid Gym in Germany, where the companies will train and validate the robot on manufacturing tasks before deploying it in production. The work supports a broader plan to deploy at least 1,000 AEON units across Schaeffler’s operations in the coming years.

Industrial Equipment News reported that the initiative follows a strategic partnership announced by Schaeffler and Hexagon Robotics in April 2026. Schaeffler, a motion technology company, will also supply actuator technology for AEON.

Inside Schaeffler’s Humanoid Gym

The Humanoid Gym is a dedicated industrial environment built around a train, validate and deploy model. It gives the companies a controlled setting to develop robot capabilities using representative applications drawn from Schaeffler factories, without interrupting active production lines.

AEON will learn tasks through imitation learning and repeated execution. The resulting robot policies will then be refined and validated against the manufacturing applications before being released for factory use.

The program also covers the human side of deployment. Schaeffler intends to build internal expertise in operating, training and integrating humanoids, rather than treating the robot as a finished system that can be installed without additional engineering. For industrial users, that integration work is likely to be as consequential as the underlying robot policy.

The report does not identify the first tasks assigned to AEON, provide performance results, or specify how many robots will be deployed during the initial phase. The 1,000 unit figure remains a planned total for the coming years, not a confirmed count for the current training program.

Six month deployment window

Schaeffler and Hexagon expect training at the facility to support AEON deployments across multiple manufacturing use cases over the next six months. Those deployments are intended to contribute to a wider rollout across Schaeffler’s global operations.

The Humanoid Gym provides a practical staging layer between task development and production use. Its value will depend on the reliability thresholds, cycle times and specific factory tasks that emerge from the validation program, none of which have yet been disclosed.
