NeodraDynamics claims 500 kg payload for giant Neo1 humanoid
Beijing startup NeodraDynamics says its Neo1 humanoid has a combined arm payload of 500 kg, using electric motors and digital hydraulics in a stationary machine built for heavy industrial work. According to mikekalil.com, the robot stands 4 meters tall and weighs 1,200 kg. Those dimensions put its lifting claim in a different engineering context from human scale humanoids: Neo1 is a large industrial platform, not a walking replacement for a factory worker.
NeodraDynamics reports 41 independently controlled movements, with miniature hydraulic actuators powering 39 of them. The company says each actuator weighs 1 kg and can generate enough force to push a load weighing more than a metric ton. That actuator force claim is separate from the robot’s stated combined arm payload. Digital hydraulics use pressurized fluid to produce movement, drawing on the same underlying principle used in heavy machinery. For a stationary humanoid of this size, the ability to exert substantial force and withstand shocks offers a practical rationale for accepting hydraulic complexity. Boston Dynamics retired its hydraulic Atlas in 2024 in favor of a fully electric design, but that decision concerned a substantially smaller machine.
NeodraDynamics says it is working with Chinese industrial supply chain company JD Industrial to test Neo1 on heavy factory tasks. The reported work is testing, rather than an established production deployment. The company lists heavy component assembly, port cargo handling, mining, disaster response, nuclear facility maintenance and underwater infrastructure operations among its intended applications. These are demanding targets spanning very different operating environments. For now, the concrete commercial thread is the company’s stated testing work with JD Industrial on heavy factory jobs.
