Berkeley Humanoid Lite Uses DIY Actuators to Cut Costs

Berkeley Humanoid Lite is an open source humanoid reference platform built around modular, 3D printed actuators, with the complete hardware system costing less than $5,000. According to Open Source For You, the design is intended for robotics experimentation and modification rather than sale as a finished commercial product.

Each actuator integrates a motor, 3D printed cycloidal gearbox and embedded magnetic encoder. The actuators also form a substantial part of the robot’s structure, reducing the need for separate structural components.
