Welcome, REEM C!
REEM C is an adult sized humanoid research platform created by PAL Robotics in Barcelona, Spain, for university and laboratory work in locomotion, robotics, and artificial intelligence. Standing 165 cm tall and weighing 80 kg, it combines a human scale body with a white aluminium frame and protective plastic covers. Its 68 degrees of freedom support coordinated body motion, while five finger hands provide an articulated interface for object focused research. The system uses 22 brushless DC motors and 14 brushed DC motors, with harmonic drive reducers supporting joint motion. Torque sensing at the wrists and ankles contributes to contact aware control and balance research. REEM C runs Ubuntu Linux and ROS, allowing researchers to build, test, and integrate their own software workflows. Computing hardware includes two Intel Core i7 2710QE processors, with Ethernet and Wi Fi connectivity for networked operation. It has a six hour runtime per charge, a maximum speed of 2.5 km per hour, and a stated load strength of 10 kg. Safe operation around humans supports its role as a research robot built for controlled human centered environments.
REEM C has a developing Humanoid Guide skill score of 3 out of 10, with navigation rated 2 out of 5 and manipulation rated 1 out of 5. This profile places it as a research focused system for advancing rather than completing top tier autonomous task performance. Walking stairs is a demonstrated locomotion capability, making the platform relevant for experiments involving changes in elevation and coordinated lower body control. Sorting goods is also listed among its capabilities, giving teams a concrete task for studying perception, arm and hand coordination, and structured handling workflows. Together, these functions let researchers evaluate how navigation and manipulation interact in a humanoid form. The platform is particularly suited to repeatable lab studies, curriculum development, and prototypes that require a full body robot rather than a stationary manipulator.
REEM C is in production and is available through PAL Robotics, with a listed price of 325 000 USD and an inquiry process for prospective buyers. Its continued commercial availability gives institutions access to an established adult sized humanoid platform rather than a one off laboratory demonstrator. PAL Robotics brings Spanish robotics engineering to a global research market that increasingly needs reusable hardware for embodied AI, motion control, and human robot interaction projects. ROS support is especially significant because it connects the robot to a broad developer ecosystem, existing software packages, and academic training resources. With its human scale dimensions, safety orientation, and configurable software environment, REEM C provides a common platform on which research groups can compare methods, educate new engineers, and develop applications over extended experimental programs.
