Welcome, Avatar!

Avatar is a teleoperated humanoid robot for warehouse and factory environments, combining direct human operation with AI assisted learning. Built in a human shaped form for established industrial spaces, it is intended to support workflows without requiring major facility changes. The system uses multi camera HD video, Ethernet and WiFi connectivity, and two finger gripping claws. At 180 centimetres tall, it has a maximum speed of 5 kilometres per hour, a listed strength of 12 kilograms, and a runtime per charge of two hours. Avatar is rated 3 out of 10 on the Humanoid.Guide Skill Score, placing it in the developing stage. Its navigation rating of 1 out of 5 indicates an early mobility tier, while its manipulation rating of 2 out of 5 reflects developing workplace interaction ability. The robot’s operator safety net keeps people involved in demanding deployments, while recorded operator sessions train Vision Language Action models so autonomy can improve across successive shifts.

Sorting goods and assembling products are Avatar’s stated operational capabilities for light manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics. These tasks place the robot in settings where repetitive material flow and production steps benefit from consistent execution under human oversight. Its two finger gripping claws provide an intentionally focused end effector design for the goods and components involved in those applications. Human operators can guide sessions that generate training material for its Vision Language Action models, connecting practical task experience to increasingly autonomous operation. The technical approach prioritizes deployment in familiar work areas rather than demanding purpose built environments. With developing navigation and manipulation ratings, Avatar suits supervised workflows where sorting goods and assembling products can be refined over repeated shifts.

Avatar is in production and is manufactured by Avatar Robotics, a United States company founded in 2024 by Colin Webb and Nenye Anagbogu. The San Francisco team includes experience from Cruise, Apple, Tesla, and Intuitive Surgical, bringing backgrounds across autonomous systems, product engineering, and robotics to a labor focused industrial platform. Avatar represents an approach to humanoid deployment that keeps a human operator in the loop while using those sessions to advance autonomy. For factories and warehouses facing persistent worker shortages, this model emphasizes gradual adoption, allowing organizations to introduce humanoid equipment into existing work settings, retain oversight of difficult tasks, and build operational experience as the system develops. Its production status makes it relevant to companies evaluating near term robotic support for routine industrial work.
