Description

Dex2/5 is a lightweight, five-finger dexterous hand from Unitree Robotics, the Chinese maker of quadruped and humanoid robots based in Hangzhou. Unitree designed it for its G1 and R1 humanoids. Unlike most dexterous hands, it uses just two motors and a tendon-driven system to move all ten joints. One motor drives the thumb, while the other moves the four fingers together. As a result, the hand stays simple, light and affordable while still grasping a wide range of objects.

Unitree built the Dex2/5 to last. For example, it passed over 100,000 fatigue cycles and more than 100 drop tests. In addition, its wiring runs hidden inside the hand, much like veins beneath skin. It can grip items as small as 8 mm across and close into a fist in half a second. Therefore, it suits humanoid robots that need a tough, low-cost hand for everyday grasping rather than fine, finger-by-finger manipulation.
