1X Neo humanoid joins TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026 list
1X Technologies’ Neo humanoid has earned a place on TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026 list, with the publication highlighting its intended role as a household helper. The entry, published October 15, features the $20,000 robot and describes domestic tasks ranging from fetching objects to unloading a dishwasher.
According to TIME, the 1X Neo humanoid weighs 66 pounds, can lift more than 150 pounds and can carry 55 pounds. The distinction between lifting and carrying is useful here: the larger figure is not its stated carrying capacity. TIME reports that Neo launched globally in 2026 and describes it as the first humanoid robot widely available for home use, positioning the machine as a consumer product rather than an industrial system.
1X founder and CEO Bernt Børnich says Neo can autonomously fetch items from other rooms, tidy countertops, fold laundry, unload a dishwasher and carry groceries. He also says the robot will learn additional tasks over time. Those claims span both object handling and movement around a home, making the breadth of the proposed household workload a central part of TIME’s selection.
