Welcome, Gen 1!
Gen 1 is a 175 cm humanoid robot built by Persona AI for demanding industrial environments, including shipyards, steel plants, and energy facilities. The 70 kg platform uses electric BLDC actuators, harmonic drive reducers, and an aluminum alloy frame to support whole body industrial work. It has 32 overall degrees of freedom, including 20 in its hands, five fingers on each hand, and a stated strength rating of 20 kg. Gen 1 reaches a maximum speed of 5 km/h, walks at 3 km/h, and operates for up to four hours per charge. Ethernet and WiFi connectivity support integrated industrial deployment, while NVIDIA Jetson Thor class compute and LLM integration support responsive robot control. Glass to action latency is stated at 150 to 250 ms. Its Humanoid.Guide Skill Score of 3 places Gen 1 in the developing stage, with a navigation rating of 1 out of 5 and a manipulation rating of 2 out of 5. The robot is designed for human safe operation in heavy industry.
Gen 1 supports obstacle avoidance, sorting goods, and assembling products, giving it a practical starting point for structured industrial workflows. Obstacle avoidance helps the robot operate around equipment, materials, workstations, and personnel while navigating active facilities. Sorting goods enables repetitive handling tasks involving parts, tools, supplies, or production materials, supporting more consistent material flow. Product assembly capability positions the humanoid for work that requires coordinated arm, hand, and body movement around industrial fixtures and components. These capabilities align with environments where labor shortages, hazardous conditions, and repetitive physical demands make automation valuable. The robot combines mobile navigation with manipulation so it can move through a workspace, engage with objects, and contribute to multi step operational processes rather than remaining fixed at a single station.
Gen 1 is currently available as a prototype and is offered through an inquiry process for organizations evaluating industrial humanoid deployment. Persona AI is a Houston based robotics startup founded in 2024 and led by CEO Nic Radford, whose background includes 15 years of NASA robotics experience. The company has also formed a partnership with HD Hyundai, connecting its humanoid development work with a major industrial and shipbuilding organization. This focus gives Gen 1 significance beyond general purpose robotics demonstrations, since it is directed toward sectors with difficult working conditions and persistent skilled labor shortages. By concentrating on industrial applications, Persona AI is pursuing humanoid automation for environments where mobility, object handling, and operation near human teams can address major workforce and productivity challenges.
