Two Labs designed Tobi as a robot caregiver for the elderly. The San Francisco startup built the robot specifically for nursing homes, senior living facilities, and other care settings. Unlike most humanoids chasing factory or warehouse work, Tobi targets the daily realities of late-life care. The team calls it a “semi-humanoid” because the upper body looks human while the base prioritizes stable, quiet operation. As a result, residents see a calm presence rather than a fast-moving machine. Two Labs already counts Y Combinator among its backers.

Tobi takes on three roles inside each facility. First, it handles everyday help — feeding, dressing, medication reminders, and fetching objects within reach. Second, it acts as a mobility support aid so residents can walk safely, with built-in wayfinding for the building. Third, it provides genuine companionship through conversation, real presence, and consistent social support. Therefore, a single robot covers practical, physical, and emotional work that staff cannot always reach. The combination matters because most care environments run short on both hands and time.

The team designed every detail with the resident in mind. Tobi moves quietly, speaks gently, and looks calming rather than imposing. Importantly, caregivers also trust the robot, since it never tires and never forgets a medication schedule. Moreover, the semi-humanoid form puts a familiar face on the help without slipping into uncanny territory. Two Labs prioritizes safety, reliability, and warmth over flashy specs or athletic feats. Tobi remains in early-stage development at Two Labs as of mid-2026. The company has not yet published hardware specifications, pricing, or a public release date. However, the founders are already showing the robot through launch videos and direct customer outreach. Senior care providers can request a demo or pilot directly through the Two Labs website. Currently, the robot represents one of the few humanoid efforts aimed squarely at elder care rather than industrial work. That focus alone makes Tobi worth tracking as the broader humanoid market matures.
