Description

TALOS is a full-size biped humanoid robot from PAL Robotics in Barcelona, Spain. The company built it to help researchers push humanoid robotics further. The robot stands 175 cm tall and weighs 95 kg. Its name comes from the giant bronze guardian of Crete in Greek mythology. Today, top labs around the world use TALOS to study walking, manipulation and artificial intelligence.

Unlike many research humanoids, TALOS has torque sensing in almost every joint. As a result, it can feel forces and react smoothly when it touches people or objects. It walks on uneven ground and climbs stairs. Moreover, each arm lifts up to 6 kg when fully stretched out. For this reason, TALOS can handle heavy tools such as drills and screwdrivers.

PAL Robotics designed TALOS with the factory of the future in mind. For example, research teams have tested it on tasks inspired by aircraft assembly at Airbus. In these projects, the robot drilled, screwed and worked alongside human operators. In addition, its fast internal network lets it respond to changes in real time. This makes it a strong fit for shared spaces with people.

My mission, together with the team, is to help your organization understand the landscape, compare solutions, and move toward successful robot deployments.

On the software side, TALOS runs Ubuntu Linux and ROS. Consequently, researchers can fully configure it and adapt it to their own projects. PAL Robotics also lets customers customize the head and grippers. Furthermore, an open-source simulation model helps teams test their ideas before they touch real hardware. In short, TALOS gives researchers a powerful and flexible platform for advanced humanoid work.
