Description

Unitree revealed Superman on 17 August 2026. The robot jumps roughly two metres from a standstill. It also sprints at 12.66 metres per second. Both figures beat the standing human world records. Unitree developed the whole machine in a little over three months.

Superman drops the parts most humanoids treat as essential. It carries no hands and no grippers. Instead, Unitree poured everything into the legs. The robot exists to test what a machine body can do. Consequently, it cannot pick anything up.

The demonstration video runs just thirty seconds. In it, Superman leaps without a run-up, lands, and accelerates straight into a sprint. Its airborne height reaches nearly 2.4 times its leg length. Unitree admits the robot remains early in development. Motion control, stability, and energy efficiency all have room to improve.

Superman marks a shift in how Unitree competes. Most makers chase gait stability or dexterous hands. Unitree instead measures its robot against athletes. The timing matters too, because the reveal landed a week after the company opened its IPO subscription. Whether these lab numbers survive real deployment remains an open question.
