Description
Nova is a wheeled service humanoid from StarBot, a robotics company in Santa Barbara, California. StarBot launched it in December 2025 as its first-generation service robot. Instead of legs, Nova rolls on a stable wheeled base and uses two humanlike arms. StarBot built it for restaurants, hospitality and retail. In fact, the company has already tested it in a busy restaurant dining room.
Nova handles everyday customer-facing work. For example, it carries drinks and plates to tables and hands dishes to guests. It also greets customers, guides them around a store and explains products or services. In addition, it can help manage queues and answer basic questions. As a result, it takes on routine tasks so staff can focus on guests.
The robot moves and talks on its own. It maps indoor spaces and steers around people and obstacles in real time. Meanwhile, depth cameras and other sensors help it understand its surroundings. Nova speaks English, Spanish and Italian, and businesses can add other languages. Moreover, an onboard AI language model powers its conversations, with cloud support as a backup.

My mission, together with the team, is to help your organization understand the landscape, compare solutions, and move toward successful robot deployments.
StarBot designed Nova for long shifts and safe operation. Its battery aims to last a full working day of 10 to 12 hours. For safety, it slows down in crowded areas and includes an emergency stop button. Businesses can also monitor it remotely and update its software over the air. Therefore, Nova gives service teams a practical way to test robot automation in real venues.
