Description

StarBot Flex is a foldable wheeled humanoid from StarBot, a robotics company in Santa Barbara, California. StarBot introduced it in September 2026 alongside its compact Spark robot. Flex stands about 5 feet 9 inches tall, roughly the height of an adult. Instead of legs, it rolls on a wheeled base, which keeps it stable on flat indoor floors. Notably, it can fold, which makes it easier to move and store.

StarBot built Flex for real-world service work. In particular, it targets restaurants, hotels, retail stores and similar venues. There, it could deliver orders, guide guests and share information. However, StarBot plans to test each workflow at a site before full deployment. As a result, businesses can trial Flex in their own spaces before committing to it.

Flex builds on lessons from StarBot’s first service robot, Nova. The company has already tested Nova in a busy restaurant, where it carried food and greeted guests. StarBot’s service robots also use voice AI that takes orders, suggests menu pairings and guides guests to tables. Therefore, Flex starts from a platform that has already worked in real dining rooms. Its taller, foldable body should help it reach more spaces and tasks.

My mission, together with the team, is to help your organization understand the landscape, compare solutions, and move toward successful robot deployments.

Safety and practicality guide the design. StarBot sets emergency stops, speed limits and sensing for each model and each site. Meanwhile, battery life and charging options depend on the workload and environment. The company also stresses that it builds its robots entirely in the USA. In short, Flex aims to give service businesses a flexible, American-made robot for everyday customer work.
