Description

RP1 (ROBOTO 01) is a bipedal humanoid robot from RoboParty, a Shanghai robotics startup founded in February 2025. RoboParty unveiled it on September 28, 2026, at IROS 2026 in Pittsburgh, one of the world’s largest robotics conferences. The company calls RP1 the world’s first high-performance, full-stack open-source bipedal humanoid. It builds on RoboParty’s first project, ROBOTO ORIGIN, which drew more than 2,500 stars on GitHub. In fact, the team built that first prototype in just four months.

RoboParty believes humanoid robots should not be closed systems. For this reason, it plans to open much more than just the mechanical designs. The release roadmap includes actuator modules, motion control, simulation environments, software kits and training tools. As a result, researchers and makers can study, modify and improve every layer of the robot. RoboParty’s developer community already counts more than 5,000 people worldwide.

RP1 also brings serious performance. Its in-house Romomo actuators deliver up to 160 N·m of peak joint torque for dynamic movement. At IROS, visitors could push and even kick the robot in a “Kick Me” demo. RP1 adjusted its posture, regained its balance and recovered from falls on its own. Meanwhile, RoboParty’s PartyOS platform and UFO learning framework trained these skills through unsupervised reinforcement learning.

RoboParty targets researchers, educators, developers and embodied AI teams. Its engineers come from Tsinghua, Peking University, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon and other top institutions. Moreover, the company plans to add perception, whole-body manipulation and dexterous hands through its RP Hand project. Further hardware and software releases, along with a mass-production program, are planned for late 2026. In short, RP1 aims to become an open foundation for the whole humanoid robotics community.
