Description

JAKA unveiled the π humanoid robot during China’s Children’s Day season in 2026. The robot itself stands 1.22 meters tall, about the size of a young child. Unlike larger humanoids built for factories, π targets four very different markets at once. Specifically, JAKA designed it for higher education, new retail experiences, entertainment, and companion care. As a result, the robot fits naturally into classrooms, labs, offices, and homes rather than industrial floors. The company calls π “a new generation small-size humanoid robot.”

JAKA built the robot around what it calls the “Fusion Brain” architecture. A single Intel-based platform handles two jobs at once. On one side, it runs real-time motion control as the robot’s cerebellum. On the other, it runs high-performance intelligent computing as the cerebrum. The team chose an Intel Core Ultra 7 255H processor with 64 GB of memory for the job. Therefore, π skips the typical split-brain setup that most humanoids use and keeps everything on one chip.

With 27 degrees of freedom, π handles a wide range of motions for a robot its size. The legs each carry six joints, and the arms add another six each. The waist and head cover the rest. Each joint can produce up to 120 newton-meters of peak torque. Furthermore, the robot walks at 1.8 meters per second, runs, jumps, and handles complex tasks. The 3-kilogram payload covers most education and demo use cases. Meanwhile, a 2-hour battery life on a 48-volt pack supports a typical lesson, demo, or shift.

The company built π entirely in-house from the ground up. Hardware, firmware, motion control, and AI come from the same team. As a result, customers get an open SDK and full secondary-development access. Voice modules, mobile apps, and a handheld remote also ship with each unit. JAKA aims π at four specific worlds: higher education classrooms, new retail experiences, entertainment venues, and elderly-care companionship. The robot just took its first official steps in China. However, JAKA already has plans for the global rollout.
