Embodied AI
AIR is Embodied AI’s wheeled humanoid for factories, unveiled at Humanoid Europe 2026 in Munich. Built by an EPFL spin-out in Lausanne, it pairs soft, lightweight tendon-driven arms with on-robot AI that learns from teleoperated shifts, letting it work beside people without a safety cage.

Description
AIR is a wheeled humanoid robot from Embodied AI, a 25-person startup based in Lausanne, Switzerland, with an office in Rome. The company grew out of EPFL, one of Europe’s leading technical universities. CEO Francesco Stella unveiled AIR on November 6, 2026, at Humanoid Europe 2026 in Munich. The robot has a humanlike body and two arms on a wheeled base. Notably, Embodied AI built it to work right next to factory workers, without a safety cage.
Safety sits at the heart of the design. AIR keeps its heavy parts in the torso, while its soft, lightweight arms give way on contact. For example, each tendon-driven arm weighs only about 2 kg yet lifts around 5 kg. The robot also uses compliant joints and high-frequency sensing to stay gentle around people. As a result, it can share a production line with workers. Embodied AI plans to obtain CE marking in 2027.
AIR also takes a practical approach to learning. At first, a remote operator controls the robot, so the factory gets value from the very first shift. Meanwhile, every shift becomes training data for its AI. Within about a month, AIR typically takes over the task on its own. Its compact AI models run on the robot itself, guided by a vision-language model that plans each step.

Embodied AI targets manufacturing tasks that conventional robots still can’t automate. These include kitting, packaging, cable handling and complex assembly with tools. In paid pilots with large manufacturers, the company’s robots reach an average success rate of 95%. Moreover, one AIR can handle the work of up to three people per shift, depending on the task. Embodied AI opens orders for AIR right after its launch.
