In an ambitious move to integrate humanoid robots into daily life, Norwegian robotics company 1X has announced plans to initiate in-home testing of its latest model, Neo Gamma, by the end of 2025. The initiative aims to place the robot in “a few hundred to a few thousand” homes, allowing early adopters to assist in its development by providing valuable feedback on its performance in real-world settings. ​

Neo Gamma, unveiled in February, represents a significant advancement over its predecessor, Neo Beta. The bipedal robot features an improved onboard AI system and a knitted nylon body suit designed to minimize potential injuries from human-robot interactions. During a demonstration at Nvidia GTC 2025, Neo Gamma showcased its ability to perform basic household tasks such as vacuuming and watering plants. However, the robot is not yet fully autonomous and currently relies on teleoperation, with human operators remotely controlling its movements and actions. ​

The in-home testing phase is expected to provide 1X with critical data to enhance Neo Gamma’s AI capabilities and overall functionality. While the company acknowledges the challenges ahead, including addressing privacy concerns related to data collection in private residences, CEO Bernt Børnich emphasizes the importance of collaboration with early adopters to teach the robot appropriate behaviors and interactions within a home environment. ​
