Description

TorchKernel Robotics, a Chinese robotics company, builds the TORCH HAND 1. It packs sixteen active joints and five passive ones into a five-fingered design. Instead of relying on just one drive method, the hand mixes three: quasi-direct drive, lead screws, and mechanical linkages. Because of this hybrid approach, TorchKernel can tune each joint for the right balance of speed, strength, or precision. Proprietary hollow-cup motors power the whole system, keeping weight down despite the added complexity. At around 1.1 kg, the hand stays reasonably light for its strength and joint count.

That strength shows up clearly in the numbers. The hand can produce a static grip of 110N, and each fingertip alone pushes with up to 33N of force. So it can both hold heavy loads and apply focused pressure where needed. It supports a rated payload of 20 kg, with a maximum of 40 kg for brief, heavier lifts. Pressure sensors sit at the fingertips and across the palm, giving the hand real tactile feedback as it grips. This combination also delivers impressive precision, with a repeatability of just 0.02mm between movements. Overall, the TORCH HAND 1 pairs serious grip strength with fine control, aimed at demanding manipulation tasks in industrial and humanoid robotics alike.
