Description

Shenzhen-based ZWHAND, part of the Zhaowei Machinery group, builds the A17 dexterous hand. It carries seventeen active joints into a single, five-fingered design. Because Zhaowei has decades of experience in micro-motors, the hand relies on tiny built-in linear motors at each joint, rather than bulky external actuators. This lets the whole hand stay compact and relatively light, at roughly 850 grams. The A17 also marks a step up from ZWHAND’s first generation. It adds tactile sensing across the fingertips, through a flexible electronic skin layer. So the hand doesn’t just move precisely, it also senses what it touches. According to the manufacturer, this second-generation model reaches industry-leading grip strength and control accuracy for its class.

The hand’s sensors go beyond simple touch detection. Position and force sensors work together with the tactile skin, giving the A17 real feedback as it grips an object. That combination matters for tasks like delicate assembly work or handling fragile items. ZWHAND rates the hand for over a million motion cycles and more than 10,000 hours of operation, so it’s built with industrial durability in mind. At around 244mm long and 94mm wide, it sits close to human-hand proportions. The company positions the A17 between its compact six-joint B06 model and its higher-end twenty-joint B20, striking a balance between cost, size, and capability. Overall, the A17 pairs dense micro-motor engineering with genuine tactile sensing, aimed at both humanoid robots and industrial automation tasks.
