Description
Avatar Robotics builds humanoid robots for warehouses and factories short on workers. Colin Webb and Nenye Anagbogu founded the San Francisco company in 2024. Both studied at MIT, and their team also includes veterans from Cruise, Apple, Tesla, and Intuitive Surgical. Since the labor shortage shows no sign of easing, the founders built Avatar to plug that gap directly.
Avatar’s robots share a humanoid form factor, so they fit into spaces built for people. They walk the same lines, use the same tools, and follow the same workflows a human worker would. Two-handed dexterity lets them handle picking, packing, kitting, sorting, and light assembly. Because the hardware adapts to existing layouts, customers avoid costly facility redesigns.
Behind every robot sits a trained human operator, ready to step in in real time. This operator handles tricky edge cases the robot’s AI cannot yet solve alone. Meanwhile, every completed task feeds fresh data back into Avatar’s autonomy models. Over time, this data flywheel lets the robots handle more work independently, so operator involvement should shrink shift by shift.

Because the company prices its service by the hour rather than by hardware, customers pay for completed output instead of upfront capital.
