Description
Mimic Robotics announced FLUX-mimic in July 2026, together with partner Black Forest Labs. The model tackles general-purpose dexterity, letting robots learn and perform complex manipulation in real industrial settings. mimic built it on FLUX 3, Black Forest Labs’ new frontier model for image, video, and audio generation. The pairing reflects a clear thesis. Most robot policies learn from scarce action data, but video of humans doing physical work exists at enormous scale. Therefore mimic bets on video pre-training as the route to generalizable physics and manipulation priors.
That bet already shows results on the factory floor. The company reports roughly 10x better data efficiency than a conventional VLA recipe, and it hit a 95% success rate on a soft-body kitting task with no task-specific fine-tuning. Despite the heavy compute video models usually demand, FLUX-mimic runs locally on a single NVIDIA RTX 5090, fully on the edge. mimic and its partners now test it on real production work, including car door assembly with Audi. Deploying a new task takes only a few hours. Looking ahead, the team plans prompting through goal images and video demonstrations rather than fine-tuning.
