JAKA Kargo

JAKA built the Kargo as a mobile dual-arm manipulator for industrial work. The Chinese cobot maker designed it for warehouses, factories, and other facilities that move parts and goods. Unlike bipedal humanoids, Kargo rides on an omnidirectional wheeled base rather than legs. Instead of walking, it glides across the floor in any direction. Two seven-axis arms extend from a vertical lift column on top of the base. As a result, the robot can sort, transport, and load or unload goods across a wide work area.

The robot stands 1.565 meters tall and weighs about 200 kilograms with everything onboard. Each arm carries a 5-kilogram payload and offers seven degrees of freedom for flexible reach. Furthermore, the waist column lifts the arms up to 800 mm and pitches forward up to 90°. Therefore, Kargo can work at floor level, table height, or anywhere in between without repositioning. A 1-millisecond control loop ties motion, sensing, and safety together at high speed. Meanwhile, multi-modal sensors keep humans and other obstacles in view at all times.

JAKA chose an Intel Core i5 12th generation processor for the main controller. The system also ships with a 128 GB SSD and Wi-Fi 6 networking out of the box. EtherCAT runs the internal communication between joints, base, and end effectors. In addition, four Gigabit Ethernet ports and multiple serial interfaces handle external integration. The control architecture supports secondary development for teams that want to build custom workflows. Importantly, JAKA designed Kargo for “open the box, plug in, and go” deployment.

Kargo targets three core use cases inside factories and warehouses. First, it handles material transport between workstations on its omnidirectional base. Second, it picks and places parts flexibly across a variety of part shapes. Third, it sorts items into bins, racks, or downstream conveyors. The robot fits naturally into automotive plants, electronics manufacturing, and logistics centers. However, it stays indoors — an IP20 rating means no exposure to dust or moisture.
