Figure releases Humanoid AI model Helix
Introducing Helix, a groundbreaking new AI system developed by Figure, led by CEO Brett Adcock. Helix is poised to redefine how robots integrate into our daily lives, marking a significant leap toward truly general-purpose robotics. The core vision behind Helix is to bring humanoid robots into people’s homes, enabling them to carry out an incredibly wide range of tasks with human-like understanding and agility. Unlike traditional robots, Helix doesn’t rely on extensive coding or lengthy training sessions. Instead, it leverages a novel Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model that allows it to interpret spoken commands, reason through tasks, and manipulate various objects—all in real time.
After more than a year of dedicated research and development, the Helix team has achieved a crucial milestone: a technical report that delves into the inner workings of this generalist VLA model. The report highlights how Helix seamlessly processes visual information, interprets linguistic cues, and then translates that understanding into precise actions. This means that whether it’s identifying a specific kitchen utensil or figuring out how to pick up fragile items without damaging them, Helix adapts its approach for nearly any household object.
During testing, Helix demonstrated an impressive ability to grasp and move items it has never handled before—much like a human. This capability underscores the model’s potential for assisting with a variety of tasks, ranging from household chores to more specialized applications in healthcare and beyond. By offloading routine responsibilities to Helix-powered robots, users can reclaim valuable time and energy for more meaningful activities.
Figure’s vision doesn’t stop here. With plans to significantly expand the AI team behind Helix—focusing on training infrastructure, large-scale model evaluations, manipulation engineering, and reinforcement learning—this is just the beginning.
