1x NEO launching October 28th: Humanoids are coming home
In an X post today, 1X CEO and CTO Bernt Børnich appeared to tease what looks like a launch date for the final version of the company’s long awaited 1X NEO humanoid robot, a machine designed entirely for life in the home. Børnich calls it the biggest announcement ever from the 1X team, hinting that the company’s vision for accessible household robotics may finally be within reach.
The team at 1X, now headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, has been unusually transparent throughout the NEO’s development journey, sharing glimpses of each major prototype stage from Neo Alpha to Neo Beta and most recently Neo Gamma, revealed earlier this year. Each generation has marked a visible step toward a more capable, lifelike, and consumer ready humanoid.
At Humanoid Guide, our editors’ best guess is that this upcoming announcement signals the NEO’s readiness for mainstream introduction, perhaps even the beginning of its rollout into real homes. If that is true, it could mark a pivotal moment not just for 1X, but for the broader humanoid robotics industry as the age of household robots moves from vision to reality. Figure AI might need to move from CGI to reality if this is so.

Bernt Børnich’s cryptic teaser has the robotics community buzzing, as 1X hints at its most significant announcement to date.
Curious how the 1x NEO stacks up to other humanoids?
Humanoid Guide just launched the 2026 Humanoid Robot Market Report. Read about 1x, their full model range and how they stack up to competitors like Tesla, Unitree, Figure, EngineAI, Deep Robotics, Agibot, Ubtech, Boston dynamics and other competitors in the humanoid space. A separate chapter discusses 1x vs Figure embodied AI models for autonomous Humanoids. You can buy the full report here. It is the most comprehensive report on the humanoid market to date.
Editor’s note:
1x still has the pole position to capture a large chunk of the home market for humanoid robots. While other humanoid makers have been distracted by industrial tasks, 1x has been firm and fast running on their mission to conquer the home. The NEO robot has therefore been designed light weight, with soft materials and with increased safety compared to other vendors. Now when starting shipping robots, we are eager to see feedback from the market and how the humanoid butler performs in people’s homes.
