Description
The R1 hand from OceanTrix delivers a strong, human-inspired grasping capability with five fingers working together. It uses a 12-DOF layout (3 DOF each for thumb, index, and middle fingers; underactuated flexions plus coupled ab/adduction for ring and little fingers) to recreate a wide variety of gripping and manipulation motions. Because of this design, the hand handles both fine tasks — like precision grasping or tool holding — and more forceful tasks — like lifting or carrying heavier objects. In everyday use, this means R1 adapts well whether a robot needs to delicately pick up small parts or manipulates larger, heavier items.

Beyond dexterity, the R1 hand offers serious strength and durability. Its metal structure — described as aviation-grade aluminium for key parts — gives it robustness and long-term reliability. According to OceanTrix, it can lift loads up to 30 kg, which places it well above typical robot hands in power. Because of this combination of agility and strength, R1 suits a range of applications: from industrial automation and heavy-duty assembly to research, robotic education, and even robotics-driven logistics or handling tasks.
