Nvidia says ‘the age of generalist robotics is here’

At GTC 2025, Nvidia demonstrated 1X’s NEO Gamma humanoid robot running its GR00T N1 foundation model.

Nvidia recently introduced its new personal AI supercomputer called Project Digits during its CES 2025 keynote. This compact, desk-sized system is priced at $3,000 and is capable of handling sophisticated AI models that can have up to 200 billion parameters. The core of Project Digits, the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, provides one petaflop of AI computing performance, which is significant considering its small form factor. This advancement makes it accessible not only to professionals but also to AI researchers and students, aiming to democratize advanced AI research by providing a powerful tool that fits on a standard desk and operates from a regular power outlet.

Adding to its hardware offerings, during the GTC 2025 keynote, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang showcased the capabilities of 1X’s NEO Gamma humanoid robot. This robot, utilizing AI technologies developed by Nvidia, demonstrated its ability to perform autonomous tidying tasks. These tasks were powered by a post-trained policy built on the GR00T N1 model, highlighting Nvidia’s ongoing efforts to bridge high-powered AI capabilities with practical robotic applications. This demonstration underlines the potential of AI to revolutionize everyday tasks through automation and advanced machine learning models.

Furthermore, Nvidia is enhancing its software ecosystem to support the deployment of these advanced AI and robotic systems. Developers can access Nvidia’s AI software library, which includes development kits and pre-trained models available through the Nvidia NGC catalog. The Digits supercomputer runs on a Linux-based Nvidia DGX OS and supports major frameworks like PyTorch and Python. This environment enables users to fine-tune models and accelerate data science workflows, further facilitating the broad application of AI technologies across various industries.
